5. Switch off your air conditioner when leaving for work, school, or vacation. Try switching it on again before returning home to save on your utility bills during the summer months.

6. Recycle what you have. For example, you could reuse empty paint bottles rather than throwing them away. When cleaning out your kitchen, throw away old food containers rather than disposing of them right after use. Similarly, you should use plastic bags instead of paper ones to store trash.

7. Be thrifty when buying furniture. Make sure that you buy products made of recycled material. Check whether the materials used to manufacture it were properly disposed of and determine how long it takes these items to break down into completely harmless components.

8. Think about where you live. If you reside in a city, consider planting trees along the road or garden. Trees provide shade which helps cool the air inside your home. Besides, they absorb carbon dioxide, making the air cleaner and fresher to breathe.

When you need to see what’s under the ground before you dig, there are two main methods of searching: active and passive. If you know where the utility lines emerge from the ground, you can use an active location method to get an accurate idea of where the lines run.

For unknown pipes, you’ll want to use a passive location method. You won’t know what kind of utility line is running there, but you’ll know where it is. You may want to use a form of passive location as well as an active one to ensure you find everything before you break ground.

Locating Different Kinds of Pipes Underground

Utility pipes come in a variety of materials and arrangements. So, you’ll need to use several techniques to find all the pipes that could run underground. These are the most common methods you’ll use to locate different types of pipes.

Water Pipes

Waterlines are tricky to find because they can come in either metal or plastic form. To make sure you cover all your bases, look for an underground pipe locator that can detect both kinds of materials. 

Natural Gas Pipes

Almost all gas pipelines use some kind of metal. This is good because you can often use a magnetic locator device like the Underground Magnetics Mag 5s to help you find the pipes!
